Illustrated concepts - breathing life into your ideas
11 June 2010
New product innovation is driven by original ideas and never seen before concepts which as a result of their newness, are difficult to communicate with words alone. With in-session visualisation, where images are sketched up as an integral element of the ideation process, participants see their ideas taking shape in real time. Bringing a budding concept to life with coloured pens and markers enables the concept to reveal itself with a depth and clarity that words alone could not convey.
Capturing the excitement
A key feature of the innovation process is to seize and build upon the passion for the very newness of a forming concept – emotive pulling. With few exceptions, letters on a white page simply cannot effectively transmit the passion behind a new concept. The colours, lines and depth of a detailed illustration are required to convey the excitement and true essence of an emerging concept.
The practical realities of the workplace schedule can delay timely follow-up on the initial excitement of new concepts. With our busy schedules, returning to a new concept the next day, the next week or the next month, we may have a written description of an idea – a few bullets points perhaps – but something is clearly missing. The spark has gone! Adding that relevant visual helps to remind us of the energy and enthusiasm that stirred us into driving the concept forward in the first place.
Torquil McCombe, Category Controller at Symington’s Ltd, sums it up pretty well when he spoke of our recent work:
“You capture brilliantly with your illustrations the energy, excitement and passion that we have for the concepts. Your illustrations bring the concepts to life and … engage both the board and customers and assist us in convincing them about the business potential.”
